The real difference is where your clients come from. Fresha runs a consumer marketplace: people search it for a service, pick a business from the results, and Fresha takes a one-time 20 percent commission for the introduction. It also bills per team member. BookingNexa has no marketplace and takes no cut of any booking, so nobody is comparing you against the shop down the road on the way to your booking page. Fresha covers more than 120 countries. BookingNexa is United States and Canada only.
Last checked 7 August 2026. Every Fresha figure below names the page we read it on and the date we checked it.
The short version
Fresha is a marketplace. Clients search it for a service and choose a business from the results, so the relationship starts on a shared shopfront rather than on your own page. BookingNexa has no marketplace.
Fresha charges a one-time 20 percent commission when a brand new client books you through its marketplace. BookingNexa takes no commission on any booking.
You cannot leave Fresha's marketplace and keep online booking. Fresha states that unlisting your profile disables all your online booking channels.
Fresha bills per bookable team member, so the bill grows every time you hire. BookingNexa bills one flat price per plan.
Fresha has no free plan. It runs a 7 day trial, then billing starts. BookingNexa has a free forever plan and asks for no card.
Both platforms answer the phone with AI. Ours is in the plan price with a published call allowance. Fresha does not publish what its AI Concierge costs on any of its own AI pages.
Fresha includes 20 messages per team member a month, then charges per message. BookingNexa includes a published monthly allowance that refills every month.
BookingNexa also answers Instagram and Facebook messages and books from the chat. Fresha's AI covers calls, SMS, and in-app chat.
Fresha operates in more than 120 countries. BookingNexa is United States and Canada only. If you are outside those two countries, Fresha is your option and this comparison ends there.
Fresha has no public API you can write to. Its data connector is a paid, one-way, read-only export.
The honest version. There are shops Fresha serves better than we do, and we would rather say so here than have you find out after you migrate.
Pick BookingNexa if
You already have a client base and you would rather they booked you directly than found you in a directory of other shops.
You do not want to pay a commission when a client books you.
You are hiring. A per-seat bill and a flat bill diverge quickly once you pass three or four staff.
Most of your new business arrives through Instagram or Facebook DMs and you are losing messages overnight.
You want to try a real booking page and an AI receptionist without putting a card down first.
You are in the United States or Canada.
Pick Fresha if
You are outside the United States and Canada. Fresha runs in more than 120 countries. BookingNexa cannot serve you at all right now, and that is the end of the decision.
You are opening a brand new shop with no client list, and paying a commission for a first-time booking is worth it to get someone through the door.
You want the marketplace itself. Fresha lists you in a consumer app people already browse, which is a genuine source of demand BookingNexa does not have.
You want inventory, memberships, gift cards, in-house lending, and buy-now-pay-later checkout in one system today.
Native mobile apps matter to you. Fresha's are mature, actively developed, and rated highly by both clients and staff.

The differences that cost you money
The differences worth understanding before you commit to either platform. Each one changes what you actually pay.
On Fresha, your clients arrive inside somebody else's app.
Fresha's marketplace is a consumer app where people search for a service and pick a business from the results. That is genuinely useful when you are new and nobody knows your name. It also means the relationship starts on a shared shopfront you do not control, and Fresha charges you a one-time 20 percent commission for the introduction. BookingNexa has no marketplace. Every booking page belongs to one shop, yours, and nobody is browsing past it to somewhere else.
BookingNexa
No marketplace, no commission, no shared shopfrontYour booking page links to you and to nobody else.
Fresha
Unlisting the marketplace disables all online bookingSource: Fresha help center, marketplace new client fees, 6 Aug 2026
Fresha describes the marketplace as being discovered when clients search for services around them, alongside more than 25 million customers looking to book. A customer in that app is shopping for a service in an area, not walking into your shop. Which business they end up with is decided in Fresha's results, not on your own page.
To be fair to Fresha, it draws the line after the first visit. Its marketplace page says that once a client books with you, they are yours, that you can rebook and market to them, and that no further marketplace commission applies. That is a real limit on the fee and it is worth knowing.
Where it gets uncomfortable is the edge. Fresha's own help center says the fee also covers people who view your marketplace profile first and then book through another online channel, so a client you brought in yourself can still be counted as an introduction. One nail technician wrote on Capterra in November 2025 that she was charged 20 percent for a client she had found personally, because that client searched her name on the marketplace.
Fresha's partner terms also say that when a Fresha user verifies an email or phone number matching a client record you hold, Fresha automatically links that record to the user's account and makes defined categories of that record available to them. Your client list and Fresha's user base are joined at the record level.
And you cannot simply step out of the marketplace. Fresha states that unlisting your marketplace profile will disable all your online booking channels, so the directory and your booking page are one switch. With BookingNexa there is nothing to unlist, because there was never a directory in the first place.
Our AI is in the plan price. Fresha will not say what its AI costs.
Fresha launched an AI receptionist in May 2026, and on four of its own pages describing it we could not find a price, a plan it is included in, or a billing basis. You enable it and find out. Every BookingNexa plan publishes exactly what it includes, and the numbers on this page are read live from our billing system as you load it.

Fresha
Not publishedFresha does not publish an AI Concierge price, a plan inclusion, or a billing basis on any of its AI Concierge pages. It is enabled separately from your plan.Checked: Fresha help center, set up your AI Concierge, 7 Aug 2026
This matters because of what surrounds it. Fresha's pricing page lists client loyalty, a Google rating booster, team messaging, insights reporting, accounting sync, and the data connector as paid add-ons, each billed again per location or per bookable team member. The plan you sign up for is a base, not a total.
We are not going to tell you what Fresha's AI costs, because Fresha does not say. That is the point. A quoted price you can compare is a feature; a price you learn after you switch something on is a surprise on an invoice.
On our side the AI receptionist is part of the plan, the monthly call allowance is published as a number, and both are read live from our billing system rather than typed onto this page. If a plan changes tomorrow, this page changes with it.
Fresha takes a commission on new marketplace clients. BookingNexa takes none.
Fresha charges a one-time commission the first time a brand new client books you through its marketplace. BookingNexa charges a flat subscription and takes no percentage of any booking, from any channel, ever. That single difference is what separates a predictable bill from a variable one.

No commission on any bookingYour clients are yours. We never take a percentage of a service, from any channel.
Fresha
20% per new clientone time, per brand new marketplace clientSource: Fresha salon software guide, 6 Aug 2026
Fresha describes the charge as a one-time fee for introducing a client it brought you. In Fresha's words, a marketplace new client is someone who first discovers your business through the Fresha marketplace and goes on to make an online booking.
The attribution is wider than a direct marketplace booking. Fresha's own help center says the fee covers people who book through your marketplace profile, and also those who view your marketplace profile first and then choose to book through another online channel.
Two working salon owners on Capterra describe being charged for clients they consider their own. One reports being billed after a client she found herself searched her business name on the marketplace. Another reports being billed for customers who booked using the QR code in his own shop. Those are their accounts of their own bills, not our characterisation of Fresha's policy.
Fresha states that a minimum fee and a maximum cap both exist, but publishes neither amount in any market we could read.
Fresha bills per team member. BookingNexa bills per plan.
Fresha's Team plan charges for each bookable team member, so the subscription rises every time you add a chair. BookingNexa charges one flat price for the plan, and the staff allowance is part of it. A three-chair shop and a ten-staff salon pay very different amounts on Fresha and the same amount on BookingNexa within a plan.

Fresha
$14.95 per team member, a monthTeam plan, per bookable team memberSource: Fresha salon software guide, 6 Aug 2026
Fresha's pricing page states plainly that as you expand, it charges for each bookable team member. Its Independent plan covers a single calendar column, and Enterprise is quoted individually for businesses above twenty team members.
Per-seat pricing is not a trick, and for a solo operator it is often the cheaper structure. It just means your software bill is coupled to your headcount, which is exactly when your payroll is going up too.
Several add-ons are billed separately again, most of them per location or per bookable team member: client loyalty, a Google rating booster, team messaging, insights reporting, accounting sync, and the data connector.
Fresha has no free plan. BookingNexa does.
Fresha runs a 7 day trial on its paid plans and has no permanently free tier. BookingNexa has a free forever plan that needs no card. If you want to put a real booking page in front of real clients before you decide anything, that is the difference between a countdown and no countdown.

You will see a 14 day trial quoted for Fresha in several review articles. Fresha's own pricing page said 7 days when we checked it, so we have used Fresha's number.
Both answer the phone with AI. Only BookingNexa answers Instagram and Facebook.
Fresha launched an AI receptionist called AI Concierge in May 2026. It answers calls, books, cancels, reschedules, and hands off to a person when it cannot help. BookingNexa's AI does the same on the phone, and also reads and replies to Instagram and Facebook messages and books from inside the chat. That is the real gap, and it is narrower than most comparison pages will tell you.

Fresha
AI Concierge on calls, SMS, and in-app chatInstagram and Facebook messaging are not named on Fresha's AI pages.Source: Fresha AI Concierge announcement, 6 Aug 2026
Fresha states that AI Concierge answers incoming calls and messages instantly and guides clients through booking, and that it works across calls, SMS, and in-app chat. Fresha also says it launched in English-speaking markets first.
We could not find Instagram, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp named on any Fresha page describing AI Concierge. If Fresha has added those channels since we last checked, this row is out of date and the date on it will tell you.
BookingNexa answers Instagram and Facebook DMs, holds the conversation, collects what it needs, and writes the booking into the same calendar as a phone booking. A booking made in a DM can only be changed from that same DM by the same person, which is how we stop one customer touching another's appointment.
Fresha meters your texts. We give you a monthly allowance that refills.
Fresha includes 20 messages and 50 marketing emails per team member per month, then charges per message after that. BookingNexa includes a published monthly message allowance on paid plans, and it refills every month, on yearly plans too. Twenty texts is a slow Tuesday for a busy shop.

Fresha
20 messages per team member, a monththen charged per message, at a rate not published in US dollarsSource: Fresha salon software guide, 6 Aug 2026
Work out what 20 covers. A single appointment can easily use three messages: a confirmation, a reminder the day before, and a follow-up. That is six or seven clients a month per team member before you are into paid messages, and reminders are the thing that actually stops no-shows.
Fresha publishes its per-message prices in each market's own currency, and we could not read a United States dollar figure for a text, a marketing email, or a marketing text on any Fresha page. So we cannot tell you what the overage costs, only that there is one and that it starts early.
Our allowance is a number you can see before you buy, it covers two-way conversations rather than one-way blasts, and it resets at the start of every month rather than being an annual pot you burn through by March.

Making the move
How to switch without losing a booking
Setting up takes about 20 minutes. Moving off Fresha safely takes a couple of weeks, mostly because you should overlap the two rather than cut over in one night.
1
Export your clients before you cancel anything
Fresha exports your client list as Excel or CSV from the clients screen. Do this first, while your account is still active, and keep the file. Note that stored card details do not come across, so any client on file will need to re-enter a card wherever you land.
2
Import into BookingNexa and rebuild your services
Upload the CSV, then add your services, prices, durations, and staff hours. This is the part that takes real time and it is worth doing carefully, because your booking page and your AI both read from it.
3
Run both systems in parallel for two weeks
Keep taking bookings on Fresha while you point new enquiries at BookingNexa. Nothing is at risk, you are just proving the new booking page and the AI handle your actual calls before anything depends on them.
4
Move your number, then cut over
Point your business number at BookingNexa so the AI answers, and switch your Instagram and Facebook links to the new booking page. Let the last of your Fresha appointments run out, then close the account.
5
Unlist your marketplace profile last
Fresha states that unlisting the marketplace profile disables all your online booking channels, so leave it until your Fresha calendar is empty. Do it earlier and you will break bookings you still need.
FAQ
Questions people ask about Fresha
Is Fresha really free?
No. Fresha runs a 7 day trial on its paid plans and has no permanently free tier, so billing starts once the trial ends. It also charges a one-time 20 percent commission when a brand new client books you through its marketplace, and meters messages beyond a monthly allowance. Fresha does not charge a booking fee on each appointment, which it states plainly on its pricing page.
What is the Fresha new client fee and when does it apply?
It is a one-time commission Fresha charges the first time a brand new client books you through its marketplace. Fresha defines a marketplace new client as someone who first discovers your business through the Fresha marketplace and then makes an online booking. Its help center says the fee also covers people who view your marketplace profile first and then book through another online channel. It does not apply to a client already in your list, or to services added at checkout after the booking.
How much is Fresha per month?
Fresha's own salon software guide lists an Independent plan at 19.95 US dollars a month for a one-person business and a Team plan at 14.95 US dollars per team member a month. Enterprise is quoted individually for businesses above twenty team members. Fresha shows prices in each market's own currency, so confirm the figure for your country on fresha.com/pricing.
Does Fresha have an AI receptionist?
Yes. Fresha launched AI Concierge in May 2026. It answers incoming calls and messages, books, cancels, and reschedules appointments, and notifies a team member when a request falls outside what it can handle. Fresha says it covers calls, SMS, and in-app chat, and that it launched in English-speaking markets first. Instagram and Facebook messaging are not named on Fresha's AI pages.
What is the best Fresha alternative for a small salon?
It depends on where your clients come from. If most of your bookings are repeat clients and referrals, a flat subscription with no commission usually costs less than a per-seat plan plus marketplace commission, and BookingNexa is built for exactly that shop. If you are brand new with no client list, the marketplace itself is worth paying for and Fresha is hard to beat. If you are outside the United States or Canada, BookingNexa is not an option at all.
Can I use Fresha without being listed on the marketplace?
You can unlist your marketplace profile, but Fresha's help center states that doing so will disable all your online booking channels. So in practice the marketplace listing and Fresha's online booking are the same switch. There is no way to keep online booking while opting out of the marketplace and its new client fee.
Does Fresha have an API?
Not a public one you can write to. Fresha sells a data connector as a paid add-on, and its own documentation describes it as a one-way sync where data flows from Fresha to your chosen platform and nothing comes back. If you need another system to push appointments or clients into your booking software, that is not something Fresha supports today.
What do salon owners say about Fresha?
Recent reviews on Capterra praise the software and criticise the commercial model, often in the same review. Owners describe it as easy to set up and easy for clients to book with. The complaints cluster on the new client fee and on features moving behind add-ons. One nail technician who rated it three stars in November 2025 wrote that she had a great experience and no issues with the system itself, in the same review where she objected to being charged 20 percent for a client she found herself.
How do I switch from Fresha to BookingNexa?
Export your client list from Fresha as CSV first, while the account is still active. Import it into BookingNexa, rebuild your services and staff hours, then run both systems side by side for a couple of weeks. Move your business number across when you are satisfied, let your remaining Fresha appointments run out, and unlist your marketplace profile last, because unlisting turns off Fresha's online booking immediately.
Will I lose my clients if I leave Fresha?
No. Fresha lets you export your client list as Excel or CSV, so the names, contact details, and history come with you. Stored card details are the exception: Fresha states those are encrypted and cannot be exported or transferred, so any client with a card on file will need to add it again wherever you go.
Does BookingNexa charge commission on bookings?
No. BookingNexa charges a flat subscription and takes no percentage of any appointment, from any channel, including bookings the AI makes on the phone or in an Instagram or Facebook message. There is no marketplace, so there is no introduction fee and nothing to opt out of.
Can I import my client list and appointment history?
Yes. Export your clients from your current system as a CSV, then import that file into BookingNexa during setup. Most booking platforms export clients, services, and upcoming appointments. Anything that does not come across cleanly, our team will map for you before you go live.
Is there a contract or a minimum term?
No. Monthly plans cancel any time, and the free forever plan needs no card at all. Yearly plans are prepaid for twelve months at the discounted rate, which is the only commitment we ask for.
Which countries does BookingNexa work in?
The United States and Canada. Phone numbers, calling, and texting are all United States and Canada only right now, so a shop outside those two countries cannot run BookingNexa today. If you operate in another country, pick a platform with coverage there.
How long does it take to set up?
About 20 minutes. Roughly 15 minutes to add your services, hours, and staff, and another 5 minutes to connect your phone number and switch the AI receptionist on. Most shops finish the same day they sign up.
Do I have to take payments through BookingNexa?
No. You can run BookingNexa purely for booking, calls, and messaging, and keep taking payment however you take it today, whether that is your own card terminal, cash, or an existing processor. Card payments and deposits are there when you want them, not a condition of using the software.

How we checked this
Every Fresha figure and policy on this page was read on a live Fresha page or an independent review on the date shown beside it. Pricing and policies change. Check fresha.com for the latest before you make a decision.
Fresha shows prices and fee schedules in the visitor's own currency and market, so its pricing page cannot be cited for a United States dollar amount. The dollar figures here come from Fresha's own long-form guides, which publish United States pricing and carry a publication date.
Some figures were left out on purpose because we could not verify them on a live page: Fresha's per-message and per-marketing-email costs in United States dollars, its card processing percentages, payout timing, and what happens to your data export after an account closes. Where a figure is missing on this page, that is why.
Merchant reviews are quoted from Capterra with the reviewer's role, rating, and date. Reviews on some other platforms were not reachable when we compiled this, so they are not represented here.
BookingNexa prices and plan limits on this page are read live from our own billing system every time the page loads, so they are current by construction.
