GlossGenius charges one flat price for the whole business with card processing bundled in, and at one or two chairs it is cheaper than us and often the better buy. The gap opens as you grow. Their plan steps at two team members and again at ten, their multi-location release covers shops in a single tax area, and their AI answers calls and texts but not Instagram or Facebook. BookingNexa also serves Canada. GlossGenius does not.
Last checked 10 August 2026. Every GlossGenius figure below names the page we read it on and the date we checked it.
The short version
GlossGenius charges one price for the business, not one per person. Their help center states that only the account owner pays and team members carry no separate subscription fee. That is a genuinely good deal and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
The entry plan allows one additional team member with limited functionality. The second chair is the first upgrade, and it lands sooner than most owners expect.
The middle plan tops out at nine people including the owner. Going past that moves you to their top plan, which is roughly a threefold step in monthly price.
Their AI answers inbound calls out loud and books against real-time availability. So does ours. On the phone this is a tie and the page says so.
Instagram and Facebook direct messages are named nowhere on their AI pages. What they connect to those two accounts is a Book Now button that sends a client to the booking site.
Multi-location arrived in June 2026 on their middle and top plans, and their own guide limits it to businesses running two to five locations in the same area on the same tax rate.
Their guide states that support for locations across different time zones or tax rates is still to come, and that multi-location is being switched on business by business after a call.
Card processing is a flat published rate with no extra charge for card on file or manual entry. Ours is optional, because we do not require you to take payments through us at all.
GlossGenius runs on a 14 day trial with no card. BookingNexa has a free forever plan, and for a solo booth renter their paid product may still be the better answer.
GlossGenius accounts are limited by their terms to the fifty states, the territories and the District of Columbia. BookingNexa covers the United States and Canada.
The honest version. There are shops GlossGenius serves better than we do, and we would rather say so here than have you find out after you migrate.
Pick BookingNexa if
A real share of your enquiries arrive as Instagram or Facebook messages and nobody is reading them after closing.
You are hiring past the second chair and you would rather your software allowance moved on your schedule than on a plan boundary.
You are opening in a second tax area, a second state, or a second time zone.
You are in Canada, where GlossGenius cannot open an account for you at all.
You want a published number for what the AI receptionist includes before you switch it on rather than after.
You want to run a real booking page for real clients with no clock on it.
Pick GlossGenius if
You work alone. At one chair they are cheaper, and built for exactly that person.
You care how it looks. Their design taste and their native apps are both ahead of ours.
You want card processing inside one bill, at a single published rate.
You want to be running this afternoon. Their onboarding is the fastest here.
You need inventory, payroll, commissions or gift cards today. We have not built those.
Your shops sit in one town on one tax rate. That costs less on their plan than ours.
Decides the bill
The differences that cost you money
The differences worth understanding before you commit to either platform. Each one changes what you actually pay.
Nobody charges per head. The plan boundary does the charging.
GlossGenius does not bill per team member, and their own help center says so plainly. What it does instead is cap each plan at a headcount. The entry plan allows one additional person with limited functionality, the middle plan stops at nine including the owner, and passing either one is an upgrade rather than an incremental charge.
BookingNexa
Unlimited people on this planEveryone with their own calendar, at one price, with no reduced second seat.
GlossGenius
One additional team member on the entry plan, nine on the middle plan, unlimited on the top planTheir wording for the entry plan's second seat is that it carries limited functionality. Only the account owner pays a subscription, which is a genuinely good structure.Source: GlossGenius help center, team member limits by subscription plan, 10 Aug 2026
A per-seat bill and a banded bill feel very different from the inside. Per-seat is a small ache every time you hire. Banded is nothing at all for months, then a single day where the number moves and it moves by a lot. Their steps land at the second chair and at the tenth.
Give them proper credit for the mechanic though. Once you are inside a band, hiring is free. A shop that sits at six people pays what a shop with three pays, and there is no paperwork and no seat count to reconcile. That is a real and underrated advantage over anyone billing per calendar.
The place it bites is the entry plan, because the second team member is the one every growing shop adds first. Their own documentation describes that person as having limited functionality, so the first hire is also the first upgrade conversation.
Our staff allowance sits in the plan too, so we are not claiming a different mechanic. The difference is where the boundaries fall and what else comes with them, which is what the rest of this page is about.
Their AI answers the phone and books the appointment. So does ours.
This is the row where most comparison pages would overreach, so here it is straight. GlossGenius Reception answers inbound calls and text messages around the clock, and their page states it books and reschedules against real-time availability. That is the same job our receptionist does. On the telephone the two products are level and we are not going to manufacture a gap.
BookingNexa
30 AI calls a month, published on the planThe allowance is part of the plan and refills every month, on yearly billing too.
GlossGenius
Answers calls and texts, and books against real-time availabilityGenuine parity on the phone. What is not published anywhere we could find is the price, the plan it belongs to, or any usage ceiling.Source: GlossGenius Reception page, 10 Aug 2026
It is worth pausing on how recently that stopped being unusual. An AI that picks up a live call, understands what somebody wants, checks what is actually free and closes the booking before they hang up was a differentiator eighteen months ago. GlossGenius shipped it, and shipped it well.
Their page also describes the agent flagging a conversation and passing it to a person with a transcript of what was already said. That is the right behaviour, it is the thing shops actually worry about, and plenty of products that market an AI receptionist do not do it.
What we could not find anywhere on that page, or on the AI overview page beside it, is what Reception costs, which plan carries it, or whether there is any ceiling on how much it answers. Those are the three questions a shop owner asks second, right after they ask whether it works.
So the difference is not capability on the phone. It is that our allowance is published as a number, on the plan, before you commit to anything, and this page reads that number live rather than typing it in.
A Book Now button is not somebody answering the message.
GlossGenius connects to Facebook and Instagram, and it is worth being precise about what that connection is. Their help center describes adding a Book Now button to those profiles so a follower can reach the booking site without leaving the app. Neither platform is named on any of their AI pages. Our agent reads the direct message itself, holds the conversation and books from inside the chat.
BookingNexa
IncludedInstagram and Facebook messages read and answered, with the booking made in the thread.
GlossGenius
A booking button, not an agent in the threadTheir social integration adds a Book Now button to the two profiles. Their AI pages name calls, texts and email only.Source: GlossGenius help center, set up Facebook and Instagram booking, 10 Aug 2026
The button is a good feature and it removes real friction for somebody who has already found you and already decided. That customer was going to book. Shortening their path is worth doing and we are not going to sneer at it.
The message that never becomes a booking is a different customer. It is the one at eleven at night asking whether you do this particular service, roughly what it runs to, and whether you have anything on Saturday. A button does not answer any of those three questions, and by the morning that person has asked somebody else.
Our agent answers in the thread, works out what the person actually wants, and writes the appointment into the same calendar a phone booking lands in. A booking made in a chat can only be changed from that same chat by the same person, which is how one customer is stopped from touching another's appointment.
We are describing what their documentation covers, not what the product might do. If they have added agent coverage on those channels since this page was checked, the date beside the source will say how stale we are.
They run several shops from one login, as long as the shops are neighbours.
Multi-location arrived on GlossGenius in June 2026 and it is a real release, on their middle and top plans, cheaper than our multi-location tier. Their own guide draws the boundary: two to five locations, in the same area, on the same tax rate. Support for locations in different time zones or tax rates is described as still to come.
BookingNexa
1 on this planMultiple locations sit on our top tier, in any United States or Canadian time zone and any tax area.
GlossGenius
Two to five locations, in the same area, on the same tax rateAvailable on their middle and top plans, and cheaper than our multi-location tier. Their guide says different time zones and tax rates are still to come.Source: GlossGenius help center, getting started with multi-location, 10 Aug 2026
Take the win seriously before reading the limits. One client list, one team, one login, with calendars and reporting per shop is the thing every owner asks for the moment they sign a second lease, and their entry point for it undercuts ours.
The constraint is not a technicality. A second shop is very often the reason a tax rate or a time zone changes: a different county, the far side of a state line, a metro that straddles two of them. Those are the ordinary shapes a second location takes, and their guide says that case is not covered yet.
A few things also stay whole-business rather than per shop, and their documentation lists them: product inventory, booking controls and team commission rates. If your two shops price a service differently or run different booking rules, that is worth checking against how you actually operate before you commit.
Getting it turned on is a conversation rather than a setting. They describe rolling it out to a limited group and ask you to book a call to find out whether your business qualifies, which is a reasonable way to ship something this large and is still a gate.
Their card rate is bundled. Ours is optional, which is a different trade.
GlossGenius publishes one flat card processing rate covering tap, card on file and manual entry with no separate charge for any of them. That is a clean way to buy and it is easier to forecast than a subscription plus a processor. BookingNexa does not require you to take payments through us at all, so processing is not part of our subscription and it is not counted on either side of the calculator on this page.
BookingNexa
Not required, and not in the subscriptionTake payments through us or keep your own arrangement. Either way the plan price is the plan price.
GlossGenius
2.6% one timeon card transactions, with no separate charge for tap to pay, card on file or manual entryBundled into the subscription. Invoices and pay-later checkouts carry their own published rates.Source: GlossGenius payment processing page, 10 Aug 2026
Two products where one bundles processing and the other does not cannot be compared on a single monthly number, which is why the calculator here compares subscriptions only and says so. Adding an estimate of your card volume to one side would have produced a tidier chart and a less truthful one.
Which structure suits you depends on something we cannot see from here: how much of your revenue runs through a card, and what rate you can already get. A shop with an existing merchant account it is happy with is in a different position from a shop starting from nothing.
Their rate covering card on file and keyed-in entry with no surcharge is worth calling out specifically. Those two are where a lot of processors quietly add a step, and not doing that is a real courtesy to a shop that takes deposits.
The rows below carry both published rates, with the date each was read, so you can put them next to whatever you are paying now instead of taking a summary from us.
This is the one comparison where our map is the bigger one.
BookingNexa is United States and Canada only, which is a real limitation on most of this site. Against GlossGenius it is not one. Their terms of service restrict accounts to the fifty states, the territories and the District of Columbia, so a Canadian shop cannot open one at any price and on any plan.
BookingNexa
United States and CanadaEvery state, every province, every time zone in both.
GlossGenius
The fifty states, the territories and the District of ColumbiaTheir terms limit account use to those. Canada is not included.Source: GlossGenius terms of service, 10 Aug 2026
If you are in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary or anywhere else in Canada, this is not a preference between two products. One of them will not take your business, and that settles it before any feature comparison starts.
It matters inside the United States too, at the point a growing business crosses a state line. Their multi-location release is limited to one tax rate today, so a second shop in a neighbouring state is two separate accounts rather than one business with two locations.
We handle every United States and Canadian time zone, and business hours are anchored to the shop rather than to whoever is looking at the page, so a location in Denver and a location in Toronto both show their own opening times correctly.
None of this makes their product worse for the shop they built it for. An American salon with one tax rate has no use for any of it. It is only decisive if you are the business on the other side of that line.

Making the move
How to switch without losing a booking
Setting up takes about 20 minutes. Moving off GlossGenius safely takes a couple of weeks, mostly because you should overlap the two rather than cut over in one night.
1
Decide honestly whether you should move at all
If you work alone and the phone is not beating you, stay where you are. This page is written for the shop that has hired, or is about to, or has signed a second lease. Everyone else is better served by the product they already like.
2
Pull your client list while the account is open
The account owner can export it as a spreadsheet from the clients screen. Do it before you cancel anything. Their own documentation says client notes are not in that file, so ask their support for those separately and get them in writing before you close anything down.
3
Put your services and your team into BookingNexa
Load the client file, then set up services, prices, durations and each person's working hours. Take your time over this one. Everything the booking page shows and everything the AI says on a call is built from what you enter here.
4
Let the AI answer for a fortnight before anything depends on it
Leave your bookings where they are and forward only the overflow calls and the social messages across. You get to hear how it handles your actual clients asking your actual questions, with nothing riding on the answer.
5
Move the number last, then close the account
Point your business line at BookingNexa, swap the booking link on both social profiles, and let the appointments already on the old calendar run out before you cancel. Check the renewal date first if you paid for a year.
FAQ
Questions people ask about GlossGenius
Is GlossGenius good for teams?
Up to a point, and the point is published. Their entry plan allows one additional team member and their own help center describes that person as having limited functionality. Their middle plan covers the account owner plus eight others. Past nine people you are on their top plan, which is roughly three times the middle plan's monthly price. Inside any of those bands hiring costs nothing extra, because they charge per business rather than per head, which is a genuinely good structure. The thing to work out is which side of nine you expect to be on in a year.
Does GlossGenius do multi location?
Yes, since June 2026, on their middle and top plans. One client list, one team and one login, with calendars, checkout and reporting handled per shop. Their own guide sets the boundaries: two to five locations, in the same area, on the same tax rate, and it is being switched on business by business after a call rather than as a self-serve setting. Their guide also says support for locations in different time zones or tax rates is still to come. If your shops sit in one town, this covers you and it starts on a cheaper plan than our multi-location tier does.
How much is GlossGenius for a team?
Their middle plan is the one most teams land on, and it covers the owner plus eight others for a single monthly price with card processing bundled at a flat rate. There is no per-seat charge at any point. The two numbers that decide your real bill are which band your headcount falls in and whether you add their payroll product, which is charged separately. Move the staff slider on this page and it works out both sides from their published figures.
Is GlossGenius cheaper than BookingNexa?
Yes, at every headcount this calculator covers, and we would rather say it plainly than bury it. Their subscription is lower than ours solo, at a small team, and at a large one, and their card processing is inside that price while ours is a separate arrangement you may not even want. What the cheaper bill does not include is an agent on Instagram and Facebook messages, locations across more than one tax area or time zone, or any service in Canada. Whether that trade is worth it depends entirely on whether you need those three things.
Is it worth switching from GlossGenius once you have staff?
Only for specific reasons, and headcount alone is not one of them. Their team bands are generous inside each step. The reasons that hold up are a social inbox nobody is answering, a second location in a different tax area or time zone, or a move into Canada. If none of those apply to you, switching would cost you money and onboarding time to solve a problem you do not have.
Does GlossGenius have an AI receptionist that answers the phone?
Yes. Their Reception agent answers inbound calls and text messages around the clock, and their page states it books and reschedules against real-time availability rather than sending the client a link. It also flags a conversation and passes it to a person with a transcript when it needs to. This is genuine parity with what we do on the phone and we are not going to claim a gap that is not there. What we could not find published anywhere is what Reception costs, which plan carries it, or whether there is a ceiling on how much it answers.
Does GlossGenius answer Instagram and Facebook messages?
Not as far as their own documentation goes. What they connect to those two accounts is a Book Now button that sends a follower to your booking site, which is a real feature and a useful one. Neither platform appears on any of their AI agent pages. The customer that difference matters for is the one who sends a message at eleven at night asking whether you do a particular service and what you have on Saturday. A button does not answer that. Our agent reads the message, answers it, and books inside the same thread.
What is the GlossGenius card processing fee?
A single flat published rate on card transactions, with no separate charge for tap to pay, card on file or manual entry, which is cleaner than most of this category manages. Invoices and pay-later checkouts carry their own higher published rates, and an instant payout costs extra against a free next business day transfer. The exact figures and the date we read them are in the pricing table on this page. BookingNexa does not require you to take payments through us, so processing is not part of our subscription and the calculator here compares subscriptions only.
Can I use GlossGenius in Canada?
No. Their terms of service limit use of an account to the fifty states of the United States, its territories and the District of Columbia. That is the one place where our usual geographic limitation does not apply, because BookingNexa covers the United States and Canada. If you are a Canadian business the comparison ends there, whatever else you make of the two products.
What are the best GlossGenius alternatives?
Work out which problem you actually have first, because the answer changes completely. If you love the product and just want more headroom, their own top plan is the cheapest fix and nobody needs to switch. If your bookings are leaking out of an unanswered social inbox, or you are opening across a state line, or you are in Canada, those are the three cases this page was written for. If you need deep inventory, payroll and commission tooling in one system today, GlossGenius already has more of that built than we do.
Will I lose anything by leaving GlossGenius?
Yes, and the list is longer than we would like. You would give up inventory and retail management, payroll, time tracking, commission tracking, client financing and pay-later checkout, and none of those exist on our side today. You would also give up card processing bundled into one bill, and a product with better native apps and more design polish than ours. What you gain is an agent covering Instagram and Facebook as well as the phone, locations across any time zone or tax area, and a platform that can follow you into Canada.
Can I import my client list and appointment history?
Yes. Export your clients from your current system as a CSV, then import that file into BookingNexa during setup. Most booking platforms export clients, services, and upcoming appointments. Anything that does not come across cleanly, our team will map for you before you go live.
Is there a contract or a minimum term?
No. Monthly plans cancel any time, and the free forever plan needs no card at all. Yearly plans are prepaid for twelve months at the discounted rate, which is the only commitment we ask for.
Which countries does BookingNexa work in?
The United States and Canada. Phone numbers, calling, and texting are all United States and Canada only right now, so a shop outside those two countries cannot run BookingNexa today. If you operate in another country, pick a platform with coverage there.
How long does it take to set up?
About 20 minutes. Roughly 15 minutes to add your services, hours, and staff, and another 5 minutes to connect your phone number and switch the AI receptionist on. Most shops finish the same day they sign up.
Do I have to take payments through BookingNexa?
No. You can run BookingNexa purely for booking, calls, and messaging, and keep taking payment however you take it today, whether that is your own card terminal, cash, or an existing processor. Card payments and deposits are there when you want them, not a condition of using the software.

How we checked this
Every GlossGenius figure and policy on this page was read on a live GlossGenius page or in their own help center on the date shown beside it. Pricing and policies change, and theirs have changed twice in the last year. Check glossgenius.com before you decide anything.
All prices quoted are their monthly billing figures in United States dollars. Annual billing is lower on every tier, so a reader who pays yearly should expect smaller numbers than the ones here.
No figure here comes from a review site or a pricing round-up. Several of them contradict their own help center on team limits and on whether multi-location exists at all, which is precisely why every row on this page points at their documentation instead.
Their help center still carries an older article saying multi-location is not supported. A newer set of articles published in June 2026 describes it working, with the limits quoted on this page. We used the newer set, because it is dated later and it matches what their pricing page now describes.
Card processing is excluded from the calculator on both sides. They bundle it into the subscription and we do not require it at all, so there is no honest way to put both in one monthly total without inventing a card volume nobody asked you for. Both published rates are in the pricing table instead.
Some things were left out because we could not verify them: what Reception costs or which plan carries it, whether any public API exists, what happens to your data after an account closes, and whether their multi-location rollout has since opened up. Where a row says a figure is not published, that is why.
We did not summarise merchant reviews. GlossGenius is unusually well liked by the people who use it, and a competitor's second-hand reading of other people's reviews would tell you less than ten minutes on the review sites yourself.
BookingNexa prices and plan limits on this page are read live from our own billing system every time the page loads, so they are current by construction.
